Summer and Spring Events - A Huge Success!

The Friends have held two events in 2008. In June 2008 the Friends welcomed the return of Robert Wilkinsons Funfair to the Park. The
Friends organised a number of stalls relevant to the community
including St Mary's School and The Lapal Canal Trust who were promoting their vision of the Lapal Canal returning through the Park. More Details can be found here. The event was sponsored by Robert Wilkinson's fair and additionally allowed the ground rent to be utilised
by the Friends to be reinvested in facilities for all the local community to enjoy. The Friends have liaised with the police to ensure that the event was enjoyed by families and all elements of the community who
surround Selly Oak Park!

Earlier in April we were able to secure funding to erect a number of bird boxes around the park.
To mark this event we were
joined by the R.S.P.B. who were able to share their knowledge
of our feathered friends with users of the park. The event also included a trail, face painting and activities for children who use the park. The bird boxes can be viewed on several trees around the park towards Woolacombe Lodge Road.

New sign shows the way for parking

The recent new sign for our park shows how the friends are working with the council to ensure we are creating a park to be proud of. The sign shows that in addition to the parking on Gibbins Road that there is an actual dedicated car park by the junction of Harborne Lane (by the Scout Hut) for park users.
The Friends wish to remind users that motor vehicles of all description (including licensed and unlicensed off road motorcycles) are NOT allowed in the park. This is the same for all Birmingham City Parks.
