Fine weather for the 2018 festival produced our best turn out ever and queues for the BBQ and Ice Cream

Robert Wilkinson's Fun Fair supported the Festival with kids rides a bouncy castle, and our stage plus a donation

Birmingham Rock School provided a choir signing many popular rock anthems.

Our main sponsor, The University of Birmingham, also provided a free Zumba class.
Taking on the Donkey Rides were up this year will all proceeds going to support the Friends of Selly Oak Park

Keresley Flyball team provided another good display to round off the Dog Show. Many thanks to Manor Vets for supporting the show.

The Circus Skills workshop is a firm favorite.

Crowds watching the dog show.

Keresley Flyball dogs really do fly.

This old trooper was also a star.

Just for a change Northfield Manor win the football. We may have to give them the trophy for keeps.

The donkeys were a hit once again.

Martin the Juggler... erm... not actually juggling.

Normally we don't let vehicles into the festival circle.

Well we all need a break now and then.

Northfield Manor School regain the title of Selly Oak Junior Football Champions.

This prize winner seems reluctant to leave the stage at the Dog Show.

Selly Oak Festival 2013

Saturday, 29th June 2013 dawned fine and bright, with high cloud and a slight breeze, and gradually turned into a glorious day of sunshine - perfect conditions for what has been the best Festival of modern times.  We are growing year on year.
The annual football tournament, a full programme of entertainments (some Festival regulars and some new ones), a couple of dozen stalls, and the children's rides and Festival Stage (kindly supplied by Robert Wilkinson's Fun Fair, our major sponsor), provided something for all the family.

Special mention should be made of the display and cavalcade of Ariel motorcycles by the local Collectors Club and of the Bournville School Brass bands. Ariel has special connections with Selly Oak, having been the home of the Ariel Works for decades through the 1900s.

Few can remember when a brass band played in Selly Oak Park, though they used to be regular features of life in the Park; so we hope Bournville School will have rekindled a happy tradition.

Things were a little different this year in that the full Fun Fair was not present in the Park, nevertheless we were grateful to Robert Wilkinson for bringing the rides and threading them and the Festival Stage amongst the stalls around the Festival arena to create an inclusive feel for all the activities.

The annual 6-a-side under eleven football tournament was played out between 6 teams - Northfield Manor A, Bournville Warriors A, Pave Lodge Soccer Club, Northfield Manor B, Bournville Warriors B and St Mary's.  Northfield Manor A and Bournville Warriors B got through to the final.  The final was a very exiting game with a large crowd of supporters from both teams urging the players on until the end. The Northfield team won 4-1 and was presented with the winners shield and medals. Bournville Warriors were presented with runners-up medals.  Friends of Selly Oak Park donated £25 to the winning team's funds.  Cllr Dave Radcliffe, and PCSO Carl Barrington were the referees.

The full list of entertainments was:
Bloco Louco Samba Band (who peformed two sets and led drumming workshops)
Fireworks Cheerleaders
Falconry flying display
Ariel Motorcycle cavalcade
Silverstream Majorettes
Bournville School Brass Band
Falconry flying display
Bournville School Brass Ensemble
And while all that was going on Martin the Juggler was entertaining with his circus skills.

Selly Oak Festival 2012

Up close and personal with the falcons
In addition to championing the needs of the park and its users the Friends of Selly Oak Park also organise the annual Selly Oak Festival. 2012 was our biggest festival yet with around 2500 visitors and around 25 stalls plus performances on the Festival Stage and in the main arena.

Gospel Choir take to the Festival Stage
Entertainment was provided by the Bloco Louco Samba Band,  City Church Gospel Choir, Fireworks Cheerleaders, Scooby Sue and Friends, Martin the Juggler and Hagley Falconry Centre.

Martin the Juggler
Stalls included Stonehouse Gang, Vineyard Church, Labour Party, Ariel Scout Group, Blue Cross Animal Centre, Lapal Canal Trust, Tiverton School, Harborne Lane Allotments, Friends of Selly Oak Park, Kurdish Education Centre, St Mary's Church, City Church, St Mary's Hospice, Selly Oak St Mary's Neighbourhood forum, Centro, Barber Institute, Fireworks Cheerleaders, and the Vintage Selly Oak Facebook group raising money for Acorns.

British Red Cross keep a watching brief at the Football
The Festival included the annual Junior 5-a-side Football Tournament with 2 teams each from Bonneville Warriors (winners), Northfield Manor School (Winners) plus teams from Tiverton School and St Mary's School. Once again Councillor Dave Radcliffe refereed.

Hummm, choices

Other activities included BBQ, Curry Stall, and cake stall, face painting, Olympic torch throwing, tombolas, raffles, bookstall, information stalls and other games. And a toy stall selling handy bubble machines...

... apparently they don't like bubbles!
The 2012 festival was sponsored by Robert Wilkinson's Fun Fair, and Birmingham City Council, and supported by Quadron, West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service and  the British Red Cross.
